History and
Coaching Approach
|
 |
My
coaching journey began in the 1970s when I was a co-creator of The
Wellness Resource Center in Mill Valley, California. It was the
first wellness center in the US and perhaps the world. We addressed
12 areas
of life experience encompassing body, mind and spirit, and
pioneered a partnership process that is consistent with what we
call coaching today. |
My personal journey began when, as a sickly child, I started asking
questions about better ways to live. Those questions were the
fuel that eventually propelled me to earn a degree in psychology.
Being a committed life-long learner and independent scholar, my
studies only began there.
Coaching was a natural outgrowth of the process of asking
expanding questions and finding answers which lead to more questions.
It's a process that I find infinitely fascinating and love to share.
I'm constantly honing my craft and broadening my studies.
I'm
a Board Certified Coach and certified by International Coach Federation, Intrinsic Coaching®,
and
Body-Mind Life Coachingä
. I'm a graduate of Dr. Martin Seligman's vanguard,
six-month Positive Psychology training in
Authentic Happiness Coaching.
I've studied social neurobiology with Dan Siegel, MD and co-organized
the
Mindsight Symposium in Portland,
Oregon. I also employ the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
and a variety of effective processes such as Byron Katie's inquiry
process, the Sedona Method, and Eugene Gendlin's Focusing technique.
I'm
the Director of Training for HealthWorld Online (www.healthy.net)
and have co-designed a highly transformative coach training using
the Wellness Inventory. We've trained over 400 coaches in 18
countries. (www.wellpeople.com/certification.asp)
I call my work Authentic-Life Coaching for two reasons. The
first, and most important, is that my job is to assist you in
achieving your own authentic life, which comes from the core of who
you are and who you can envision yourself to be.
The
other reason is that authenticity is one of my strengths. By
using my strengths, I'm more effective in my job. I don't hold
myself as a paragon of anything. I'm a woman who works on
herself every day, just as you do, to be happier, healthier, and more
productive. I've been confronted with a lot of obstacles and
overcome them. I've worked hard all my life to find the most
effective resources with which to make lemonade when life has handed
me lemons. Clients
tell me that authenticity is one of the qualities that
most contributes to my effectiveness in coaching them.
Whether it is in one-to-one
sessions, group coaching, or in classes or workshops, my aim is to help you to tap
into your authentic self and use your strengths to be, do, and have
what fulfills you.
-
I join you as a partner in an exciting
exploration that will uncover that which contributes to your
happiness, contentment, meaning, and success.
-
I help you stay on course until you accomplish
your goals, whatever they may be.
-
I work with you where you are and step by step
help you overcome obstacles.
No two journeys are the same.
I don't try to fit you into a formula or a mold. I have many years of
experience, a well-grounded intuition, and many effective tools that
are scientifically and experientially proven by thousands of
travelers before you.
Nonetheless, the route that
matters is the one you choose -- you are the expert in your own
life. You are never asked to accept what I say. You are only asked
to embark whole-heartedly and self-responsibly to see for yourself
what emerges.
This is a journey I love --
for myself and for those with whom I'm privileged to travel. It's my
passion. It's what challenges my mind, fills my heart, and often
unveils my soul.
If it's right for you, I
invite you to come travel with me and see what waits for you around
the next bend.
When the ear hears
what the mouth is saying,
the soul surprises the mind."
